Product Description
This book explores the intersection between cognitive sciences and social sciences. In particular, it explores the intersection between individual cognitive modeling and modeling of multi-agent interaction (social stimulation). The two contributing fields–individual cognitive modeling (especially cognitive architectures) and modeling of multi-agent interaction (including social simulation and, to some extent, multi-agent systems)–have seen phenomenal growth in recent years. However, the interaction of these two fields has not been sufficiently developed. We believe that the interaction of the two may be more significant than either alone.

“Are You ‘Hearing Voices’ in Your Head?

Are There Days When You’re Convinced (and Worried) That You Are Going Crazy?

Would You Give Anything to Know the Answers as to What the Voice/s Are and How You Can Get Some Peace from It?”

It covers just about everything you need to know about the voice (or voices) you, in fact that we all hear in our heads.

It’s not dreamed up information. Many well-known and authorative people have talked about this subject over the years, however, the information I’ve written has NEVER been offered solely as the topic of an e-book (or book for that matter) before and NEVER offered as such an easy read.

Anyone can understand it.
* Imagine being able to actually do everything you want and need to do in life without being bashed mentally every step of the way by “the little voice/s in your head”. Wouldn’t that be great?

* Or what about if you could actually say “shut-up” to ‘the voice’, and know you’ll be taken notice of … How would that feel if you could actually do this?

* Imagine being able to live your life to the fullest and have “the little voice” on your side.

Here’s a sneak-peak at what you’ll discover in – “How to Tame That Voice in Your Head”:

* How to give the voice a ‘dummy’ and make it sit quietly in the corner until you need it.

* How to set yourself free of the voices’ constant nagging, belittling and name calling.

* How taming the voice can let loose your real potential.
Book Description

Experimental philosophy is a new movement that seeks to return the discipline of philosophy to a focus on questions about how people actually think and feel.

Departing from a long-standing tradition, experimental philosophers go out and conduct systematic experiments to reach a better understanding of people’s ordinary intuitions about philosophically significant questions.

Although the movement is only a few years old, it has already sparked an explosion of new research, challenging a number of cherished assumptions in both philosophy and cognitive science.

The present volume provides an introduction to the major themes of work in experimental philosophy, bringing together some of the most influential articles in the field along with a collection of new papers that explore the theoretical significance of this new research.
Book Review

“Experimental Philosophy, edited by Joshua Knobe and Shaun Nichols, two of its foremost practitioners, provides an admirable introduction to the experimental philosophy movement.”–Richard Holton, Times Literary Supplement

“The experimental philosophy movement is certainly one of the most exciting developments in contemporary philosophy, and this volume is the perfect introduction to its methods, concerns and key thinkers.”–Neil Levy, Metapsychology Online Reviews

“Many philosophical questions are about human concepts. But the diversity of the philosophers’ intuitions suggests that our intuitive access to concepts is far from reliable. So why not explore human intuition experimentally by studying the intuition of our fellow humans? This sane and productive idea has been the impetus for the new experimental philosophy; and this book brings some of the best of that work–including some important reflections on the questions of method it raises-together. Anyone who is interested in what is going on in philosophy now should read this stuff.”–Kwame Anthony Appiah, Department of Philosophy, Princeton University

“In the good old days, science and philosophy were one, and philosophers were the leading scientists of their day. Then philosophers took to admiring science from a distance, and philosophy became, for scientists, a distant memory of sophomore year. But the good old days are coming back, and this volume heralds their arrival. Philosophers are once again discovering interesting things about the human mind, and scientists are once again discovering philosophy. Read this book, and find out what the buzz is about.”–Joshua Greene, Department of Psychology, Harvard University

“Experimental philosophy is one of the most exciting and controversial developments in philosophy in recent years. Whether it undermines or extends the methods of traditional philosophy, it raises questions that go to the heart of philosophical inquiry. This book collects many key experimental studies and theoretical analyses, bringing the reader to the leading edge of the current debate.”–David Chalmers, Department of Philosophy, Australian National University
Book Description:

Trying to make the agonizing decision whether to get out of a troubled, potentially life-wrecking relationship is the specific ambivalence this book addresses. The reader is offered a focused way to deal with one critical issue at a time rather than sort endlessly through the whole messy bundle of emotional pros and cons. Kirshenbaum’s expertise allows her to pinpoint the pertinent questions. The Boston psychotherapist, who does relationship counseling, offers a series of them, amplified with guidelines: “Power people poison passion”; “If your partner can’t even see what it is about him that makes you want to get out, it’s time to get out”; “If it never was very good, it’ll never be very good.” And threaded through the book, which is written in a sympathetic, chatty, accessible style, are validating anecdotes that dramatize how other people have experienced and responded to the same problems the reader is going through.
Editorial Reviews:

From Publishers Weekly:

Trying to make the agonizing decision whether to get out of a troubled, potentially life-wrecking relationship is the specific ambivalence this book addresses. The reader is offered a focused way to deal with one critical issue at a time rather than sort endlessly through the whole messy bundle of emotional pros and cons. Kirshenbaum’s expertise allows her to pinpoint the pertinent questions.
From Library Journal:

For those struggling to decide if a relationship is worth trying to save, Kirshenbaum (clinical director, Chestnut Hill Inst.) knows the issues and explains them clearly, presenting 36 well-phrased and well-ordered diagnostic questions, giving examples, and then succinctly offering guidelines to follow. Those who give certain answers to the diagnostic questions will be faced not only with a realization of how deep the problems may be but also with Kirshenbaum’s repeated admonitions that “most people who answered the question the way you did were happy they left and unhappy they stayed.” Her emphatic prescriptions for such nuanced problems, as well as her promise that “new hope is now entirely realistic for you” and assurance that “there are definite answers for you here,” should make most readers wary. But Kirshenbaum does caution that “nothing in the book overrules what a good therapist…might tell you,” and she will help readers sort out ambivalent feelings about relationships. For larger public library collections.?Susan E. Burdick, Reading, Pa.
Book Description:

Eagerly awaited, the second edition of the best-selling Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics has been thoroughly updated and enhanced.

The text continues to offer the most broad-based introduction to this explosive new discipline, combining theoretical context with practical applications.

Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics is a textbook for undergraduate students, graduate students, and anyone involved in biomedical research.

The first third of this book covers bioinformatics, a new field at the interface of the ongoing revolutions in molecular biology and computers.

A focus of this new discipline is the use of computer databases and computer algorithms to study proteins and genes, including sequence alignment, database searches, and phylogeny.

The middle third of this book focuses on functional genomics including approaches such as gene expression profiling and proteomics that are used to study cellular function.

The last third of the book is on genomics which is the study of the collection of DNA that comprises an organism, using the tools of bioinformatics.

This portion of the book spans the tree of life from viruses to prokaryotes and eukaryotes, including a description of the human genome in health and disease.
Editorial Reviews:

Review:

“…provides non-trivial tools and biological motivations to learn bioinformatics.” (Journal of Statistical Computation & Simulation, January 2005)

“…ideal both for biologists who want to master the application of bioinformatics to real-world problems and for computer scientists who need to understand the biological questions that motivate algorithms.” (Quarterly Review of Biology, March-May 2005)

“…this appears to be an excellent textbook for graduate students and upper level undergraduate students.” (Annals of Biomedical Engineering, July 2004, 32, 7)

“…highly recommended for academic and medical libraries, and for researchers as an introduction and reference…” (E-Streams, Vol. 7, No. 4)

“…an intriguing work targeted toward biologists wanting to solve problems…provides a compendium of many biological insights and breakthroughs and will be a useful resource…highly recommended.” (Choice, Vol. 41, No. 7, March 2004)
Review:

“I was particularly impressed by the comprehensible and comprehensive treatment of BLAST – the best that I have seen. One is guided from choosing the appropriate type of BLAST program, database and search parameters through to refining and analysing the significance of the search results–all illustrated with clear examples.”
–David P. Leader, University of Glasgow

“I would not hesitate for a moment to propose Jonathan Pevsner’s new book as a standard course for biologists who need a serious, practical knowledge of modern bioinformatics. Dr. Pevsner does a masterful job at presenting virtually every major topic in bioinformatics and computational genomics, from the basics of sequence analysis, to microarray data classification, accurately and at a considerable level of detail but without any complex mathematics. In addition to being an extremely useful textbook, Pevsner’s book is a very nice read, due in large part, to carefully constructed questions and suggestions for discussion, and wonderful historical vignettes. In short, a great bioinformatics book for biologists!”
